These guys live in Australia and had a ceremony over there in beautiful weather so would sunny old England be able to compete? The storm clouds gathered and the wind whipped up and the rain poured down. Until, that is Katrina appeared and the clouds parted and the sunbeams illuminated the marquee!

believe it or not - that's what really happened and minutes after running for cover the ceremony took place in glorious sunshine. It was a typically English country garden scene - with hollyhocks and foxgloves and bone china.

it was a perfect day with fantastic guests and The Chequers at Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire as a reception venue - which is, if you don't know it, a beautiful english country pub with delicious food and friendly staff.

Anyway, they did it eventually and still had time for a quick refreshment before the wedding guests began to arrive.

meanwhile, Natashia was busy preparing at the Hilton Hotel near east Midlands Airport. it was a lovely setting at the church, a bit windy but it didn't stop the guests enjoying the sun in the grounds and then later at The Priesthouse Hotel, by the Trent.

There is something special about the river flowing past this hideaway hotel which always seems to create a great atmosphere and a lovely backdrop for the photos.

I first met Louise and Adam a few years ago while covering Adams sisters wedding at Sutton Bonington Hall. The weather was being particularly kind as, although it was a bit chilly it was dry and bright on the day. I started the photos with Lou and her Bridesmaids at her parents house in Loughborough before heading off to meet up with Adam and his family at the local pub in Barrow On Soar. The blue sky and sun shining through the trees made for some atmospheric shots of the guests and Louise arriving at the church. After the service and some informal photos outside everyone headed off to The Quorn Country Hotel for the reception. It was a really lovely day in every sense and a privilege to be there albeit working! Having covered Adams sister, Beckys wedding, and her brother in law, Johns wedding, I feel to have been in contact with them for quite a few years - I don't think they have any more friends due to be married so I might have to wait for the baby and family portrait work! I wish them both health and happiness in the future.

I have been working for couples getting married for 11 years and genuinely never tire of it. Guests often ask if I ever get bored of it but how can you when you have the privilege of being at an occasion with so much hope, love and optimism?
I can't resist a bit of romance. There aren't many things more touching than two people in love. And I don't think you can have too much romance at a wedding. I can't be the only one because I see lots of couples that get swept up in the lovely atmosphere of a wedding celebration. So, here are two of the many photos of Rachida and Chris, that I was lucky enough to capture in Marylebone Town Hall and The Lanesborough Hotel, Hyde park.
The column shot was chosen for an exhibition in a London gallery - but I think I prefer the more public Westminster Bridge shot!

Collette and Luke chose Nottingham Cathedral and Colwick Hall for their marriage and wedding day celebrations. Both are extremely photogenic and two of my favourite backdrops for photography. I do travel a lot throughout the year and enjoy working at some of the nicest venues in the country but these are on my doorstep and quite hard to beat. While it is really satisfying to come home with beautiful, creative photographs from a less picturesque location on a rainy day, days like this one make it a whole lot easier!

Eyephoto with Kirsty & lee at Breadsall Priory

What a fantastic day at the beautiful location that is Breadsall Priory near Derby. The weather was very kind and the sun flooded into the ceremony room just at the right time!
Breadsall has everything you could wish for in terms of a backdrop for your guests to enjoy and it's mixture of formal gardens and wooded walk means the photos of the couple can be varied without having to walk too far. Because it wasn't very warm, the photos of the couple, which I prefer to do fairly quickly so that they can spend at much time as possible with their guests, were taken in a matter of minutes. If you book eyephoto to cover your wedding I would always check at the pre-wedding shoot what your attitude is to the more formal, posed photo. Kirsty & Lee wanted a few but definitely not loads - which is my opinion too.

Well, it's taken a while to get around to it because of the usual maelstrom of the wedding season but eyephoto has a Facebook presence. I do get a lot of referrals thru' Facebook. Mainly people using it to search the internet but its own page should make that a bit easier!
Also, I will use it to put galleries from venues that I regularly work at to show the potential of each location - quite useful to see photos taken at the same time of year as your marriage - especially if it's a winter wedding.

The Belton Woods is a beautiful hotel in the Lincolnshire countryside and provided a lovely location for Rebecca & Martin.
It rained a bit (I promised myself I would do at least one post without mentioning the weather - well, I'm English!), but the great thing about having a photographer all day is...you have to feed him...no, and anyway I usually bring my own lunch - it's that if the heavens do open at the church, as on this occasion, there is still time to get those formal shots done when the weather's improved a bit.
A fantastic wedding and some great memories all captured by the weather obsessed photographer from eyephoto!
P.S. the red dresses were a coincidence, apparently, but I'm not so sure.

Just how hard is it to photograph a wedding? If you've seen a BBC news programme today or the magazine page on its website, there's a feature about a couple who've sucessfully sued their photographer because of his poor work. One comment underneath is from a photography graduate with years of experience, who maintains it is the most demanding type of photography. Having worked commercially for greeting card companies, restaurants, website designers and the England cricket team on several occasions, I've always thought wedding photography to be both the most challenging as well as the most fun. So here are a few images of Natalie and Tom on their wedding day, which proved to be one of the most beautiful and touching events I've had the pleasure to witness. So, should you fork out for an over priced amateur photographer with little experience? No, choose a very competitive one who's been doing it for years and still loves it every time!

I know I must sound more like someone from the Met. Office than a photographer but it was a bit breezy on Saturday for Helen & Dans wedding in Market Warsop and Rufford Mill!
Although we could hardly stand up the sun came out and stayed out until we had done the formal and reportage shots at the church and captured the Bride & Groom having a few quiet moments together around the beautiful grounds of Rufford Abbey. The first shot here was taken even later on, by the lake, after the wedding breakfast and speeches and before the band started the evening event.
But, having said that, I don't really think it's a good idea to focus on the weather forecast (believe it or not!) because it is out of our hands and the day will be fantastic rain or shine.
Finally, I included the same photo in colour and black & white because I could not decide which I preferred.
By the way the web gallery for this handsome couple will be on the eyephoto website as soon as they return from honeymoon.
P.S. I hope Dan doesn't mind me showing his advanced make-up skills - one of his new husband duties!

I am regularly asked if I travel - well, this year so far I have worked in North Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Cambridgeshire, Herefordshire, South Yorkshire, Oxfordshire and of course, Nottinghamshire. Unfortunately, Umbria, Tuscany and the Cote D'Azur are not on the list yet!
Hannah & Nick were married in a beautiful church in the rolling countryside of Warwickshire near Leamington Spa on a beautiful Summers day.

eyephoto visits the Forest of Arden

It was a fantastic occasion at the Forest of Arden Hotel, where Kiran & Robby got married. The setting is stunning as the Hotel is within the old hunting grounds of King Henry VIII and the Hotel is still obliged under Royal Charter to care for the land and the wildlife - including the deer - that lives there. I spent the first part of the morning in a golf buggy with one of the managers who showed me the flora and fauna and some of the loveliest spots for photos.
It was a stunning wedding with the two families officially meeting and welcoming each other before the ceremony began.
It was my first wedding at this venue but I hope it won't be too long before I return!

Well, it was a first for them and for me - a double wedding and a first wedding photography shoot in swindon for Nottingham based eyephoto. Two beautiful sisters, Dayle and Chantale got hitched in the Swindon sun - well, maybe it was all the love and kissing that gave us a warm feeling inside. There was a big Australian presence - who probably felt a little cool - but the band and lunges later on certainly warmed things up! Is this sounding a bit Mills & Boon? Anyway, it was really romantic and very special and a pleasure to be there and I wish them all well - I think Chantale has headed back to the southern hemispere already!

When your client is a renowned triple jumper and about12 inches taller than you - you would be a fool to ignore the "NO cheese!" rule. But these shots prove that just a teeny bit of romance and a weeny bit of cheese can make a photograph that you will never get the chance to create again.

I like to think that a few shots from each job I cover will be looked at for quite a while. But - the cheese barometer has to be treated with caution - Simon is dead right - over do it and you end up with egg on your face.

Indian Summer

Well, that might be being a little too positive, but all the weddings in the last few weeks seem to have had some sun and there's been less dull, greyness!

I have been neglecting this blog despite good intentions but I have a bit of an excuse...for some reason loads of this years couples that I've worked with have got their order to me within a few weeks. This should suit me fine but it has sort of altered the normal balance because combined with the usual crop of last Summer/Autumn wedding album orders it has resulted in an even busier period than usual - and the Christmas rush hasn't even started!

I can't decide to keep this blog an informal affair as it is now or change it to a taster of each wedding I cover, that is popular with several other sites I know. That would certainly mean a weekly upload. While I'm deciding - here's a few images from two recent weddings - Rebecca & Ian in Lincoln, which is a fabulous place, full stop, but great for a backdrop to a wedding and their reception was at the famous White Hart Hotel. The other guys are Katie & Dave at Sutton Bonington Hall - which has to be one of the friendliest and most relaxed venues around.

Nottingham Wedding Photographer Eyephoto gets to capture Hannah & Anthony in sunny West Bridgford!

The sun came out just at the right time and illuminated the magnolia tree and the ominous purple sky provided a dramatic backdrop - and the rain stayed away.

Hannah and Anthony were relaxed and looked really natural in the photographs and weren't bad looking either!

I've got to say nice things because they very generously included me in the gorgeous meal at Tom Brownes in Gunthorpe.

We always visit every venue a few weeks before each wedding - even if it is one we know well. If we can combine that with the pre-wedding meeting with the couple it means all the details of the days events can be discussed and the backdrops for any formal photos decided upon. It also means the shots for the mounted photograph for guests to sign, are taken at the same location as the actual wedding. I have to be honest - it isn't everybodys idea of fun! But most couples quite enjoy it and it is great way of getting used to being photographed.
Here are a couple of photos of Karen and Dan who are getting married just after Christmas at the beautiful Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire. Hopefully, the weather will be as nice then as it was last week.

Breadsall Priory Hotel is a really nice hotel for a special occasion - it has fountains, lawns and enough "wild areas" for a quiet walk. Photographs of the newly weds by themselves capture a lovely moment and give them time to be alone and reflect on the day so far. But time is precious and so ten minutes is usually enough - they want to be with their family and friends (and not the photographer!) so less is more in my book.
Caroline and Ed were a handsome, fun-loving and generous couple and their wedding was a pleasure to cover - is that enough to get me some tickets for next years FA cup final, Ed?

Old School wedding photography

I must be mad posting these group photos - don't get me wrong - it was a beautiful wedding with two lovely families and a great couple to work with; but they're hardly cutting edge, arty wedding photos are they? I have never seen a group photo on a competitors website but it's weird, every couple that book us are really keen to have informal photographs that record the fun of their wedding - but they take those as a given - it's the formal photographs that we get asked about.
Do we do them? How long do they take? Do we allow guests to take a shot with their cameras? We do - but we advise you to keep the list fairly short. As the newly-weds are in (nearly) every shot - it's important to have the next group lined up ready for the next photo to capture natural and not fixed smiles. And how long do they take? it depends on the length of your list but being organised and quick workers, thirty minutes is usually more than enough time.

Anyway, I actually like the formal shots - it's not a very fashionable position in this age of "Reportage" style work but I have photography books with "formal" shots of family groups taken throughout the last two centuries throughout the world - they provide a great social history. Just as long as they are done quickly!

Emma and Gavin at the Lace Market Hotel, Nottingham

There's something about weddings that take place in a city centre. Passers by wave, shout out their congratulations, cars toot their horns and it has a realness that is often very special - the gritty urban environment really adds to the romance rather than detracts from it - though the Lace Market Hotel itself is hardly "gritty"!

Also - several couples have remarked how lovely it is to drive past the same area to work or whatever and be reminded of their wedding day in that place.
I would recommend a city wedding to anyone - even if there isn't a bar like The Cock & Hoop, next door!

We have had a lot of enquiries recently about wedding galleries and when are they available for view?
Well, unless the couple have expressed a preference, we only put them online after they have received their proofs - so that they are the first to see them. This usually means a delay of a week or two (depending on the length of Honeymoon)
So, contrary to popular opinion, it's not a delay because we are sunning ourselves in our enormous cottage garden - it's just plain, old-fashioned politeness!!

Well, there's no hiding the fact (from my webmeister, especially!) that I have neglected this blog for over a month...since my last entry, at the end of July, we've photographed ten weddings and travelled 100's of miles - visiting some of the most impressive halls and hotels in Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire. That's my excuse anyway!
Though Quenby Hall and Langar Hall and The Priesthouse Hotel are some of our favourites - Emma & Gavins' wedding yesterday (images to follow) at the stylish Lace Market Hotel, in Nottingham city centre was a beautiful and touching occasion. Although smaller wedding parties sometimes have a different dynamic, they are just as lovely and it was a privilege to be there yesterday.
My New Years Resolution is to update this blog more often - so, considering my past performance of sticking to NYR - next Blog due in about 6 months!

The weather hasn't been great and we have had several worried emails about it from some of our "August" couples. One of the strengths of our service is the fact that we stay all day and so can remain flexible about the timing of any group or formal photos. it often brightens up in the evening and so if there's time we are happy to do them then.

Portrait Photography

Wedding photography is undoubtedly our main activity - but we love taking portraits - of children, families, brothers and sisters and even of grown-ups.
Chloe needed a shot for her website (I need to ask her about putting a link to her newly updated site) and we have included a shot here. I hope she won't mind me saying that she wasn't the most enthusiastic sitter (far too modest, for a start!) but her inner calmness shines through and made it a pleasure. I bear an uncanny resemblance to Stan Laurel and so am eaten up by jealousy of such good looks!

April Showers!

Well, we've had an unusual number of enquiries and bookings for April 2008 and we can only put it down to the great weather over the last few weeks. The lack of wind and rain has certainly made the blossom last but will it be as good next year? Although, having said that, our worst ever wedding weather has been in July - so you never can tell in England.
The good news is that informal, spontaneous photography actually benefits occasionally, from a (short) downpour, as at Lorena & Allans wedding where everybody made a quick dash for cover and minutes later were walking in the September sun again; or a gust of wind that catches a veil (Ben at "One Fine Day" videos filmed Emmas veil flying through the air and landing on yours truly) and helps create an interesting shot. Not convinced?

This is Emma - having dispensed with her veil, I did give it her back!

Wedding Photography Exhibition

The wedding exhibition is now over - it did seem like a lot of work at a time when we are producing the remaining album orders from last year, but it was great to see some of our photographs in that setting.
The last time we really exhibited in a "gallery" was in Sheffield in an empty Woolworths. A bunch of us persuaded the authorities to allow us to clean it up, erect and paint exhibition stands and put on a showcase of recent Graduates art.
If you haven't yet booked a photographer, we are more than happy to come to your place after work (some weekends are free) with our portfolio and discuss your day - and we may even bring some of these framed works, now cluttering our office up!

Newstead in springtime!

We got back from a "cultural" trip to Berlin with all its' cold war austerity and currywurst to head straight to Newstead Abbey in Nottingham which was warm and beautiful in the hazy spring sunshine.
Julie and Haydens wedding was blessed with lovely weather and had a very special, intimate feeling. We haven't covered a wedding at Newstead Abbey for two years, then two come along! We wish them both all the best for the future.
Berlin, by the way, was a really exciting city, with loads of turbulent history but the currywurst was no where near hot enough!

It was a real pleasure to see Rosie and Michel together in the grounds of Newstead Abbey. Not only did they never stop smiling - he could hardly put her down!
They were married at the Shakespeare Street Register Office but I suggested a quick walk around Newstead (which was near their family home and reception) for some shots of the two of them by themselves. It only took 15 minutes and provided them with some lovely images and some priceless memories!

We are currently exhibiting in The View from the Top Gallery, which is on the top floor of Waterstones, Bridlesmithgate in Nottingham. When we left the world of sculpture and painting for wedding photography, over ten years ago, most wedding photographers were still obsessed with formal shots and demanded the undivided attention of their clients for at least an hour - and that was only the photographs of the couple!

Apart from the obvious group shots which most couples require a few of, we pride ourselves with working quickly and capturing arty shots without impacting on your day.
